Over-Exposure: The on-set video-paparazzo, by Carrick Bartle

I filmed the behind-the-scenes footage for Exposure, which means that I was the most annoying person on set.

While everyone else was trying to do an honest day's work, I was shoving my chinchilla-miked camera in their faces and wondering why they wouldn't answer my questions.  Most exchanges went something like this:

Me: Hey Mia! So tell us about this shot.  What's up with all this running around?
Mia [the director]: Um, now's not a really good time.  I just called 'action'.
Me: Oh, sorry, I thought that was referring to me.

I had to dodge punches, replace three broken cameras, and fight a restraining order, but it was worth it: after a while, like a decoy among ducks, I managed to get close enough to capture fantastic footage of them talking about their work, joking around, eating, showering (most of the footage of which was, unfortunately, unusable).

Everyone in the cast and crew turned out to be super nice and fun (as is readily apparent in the behind-the-scenes featurette), and at the end of the last day of shooting, we sobbed and rent our clothes as we said our goodbyes.

Nevertheless, I feel lucky to have moved on to less irritating pursuits, like telemarketing.
